Reading:
We will read one story each week from our reading series. Students will have a Study Guide (which has ALL of Wednesday’s test questions on it) to complete as homework. We will go over it Tuesday in class to make sure they have all of the correct answers, then they can take it home to study for the test the next day. All Study Guides will be posted to this page in case a student loses his/hers.
The other reading homework is to read the story 2 times with or to an adult each week. Students have their adult reading partners complete the homework sheet and turn it in on Wednesday to receive 10 bonus points on their test! This form is on the bottom of the study guide.
Spelling:
Students will get new spelling words every Friday when we take a pretest. If they spell a word correctly on the pretest, then that word will not be one of their spelling words. Makes sense, huh? Students will take their words home on Friday to start studying; it is recommended that students study their words each night - even if only for a few minutes - focussing on the skill of the week. We will be doing spelling activities every day to reinforce the week’s spelling skill, and then students will take their spelling test on Thursday.
If students lose their words, they will always have access to their “school copy” to re-write them, or they can print the list and circle their words for the week. This will be the student’s responsibility; we will not be replacing lost spelling lists. Working on responsibility!
